Nurse Practitioner

NP Karen McNamara

NP Karen McNamara

Karen McNamara
“It wasn’t too long after my daughter was born at a small hospital in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 1980 that I realized my calling in life was women’s health and not the great outdoors. I remember how fascinated and in awe I was with everything surrounding pregnancy, labor, delivery and newborns. And, I still am to this day! Plus, I have added gynecology to that list.”

For many years, Karen served as Nursing Director for the Obstetrical Unit at Williamsburg Community Hospital. Karen has a special interest in adolescents, the peri-menopausal and menopausal time frames in a woman’s life.

In addition to working at Williamsburg Obstetrics and Gynecology she also has hospital privileges at a local adolescent psychiatric in-patient care facility called Newport News Behavioral Health. She is the Nurse Practitioner on staff who provides comprehensive physical care for teenagers every Tuesday afternoon and has been there since 2004.

“Besides my family, husband, children and grandchildren, my passions in life are laughter, traveling, exercising (spin class, swimming, walking, hiking, weight training) eating healthy, movies, reading, an occasional NASCAR race, the food network, discovery, animal planet and national geographic channels. I also make sure that I take time to savor the little things in life and frequently stop to smell the roses!”
